Dr.Tad.S.Murty, world famous Tsunami expert visits Lakshadweep


Dr. Tad S.Murty one of the world's most respected tsunami expert and former professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Ottawa, Canada visits Union Territory of Lakshadweep. He is accompanied by Ms Sheela Nair, Scientist, Center for Earth Science Studies (CESS), Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr Murty made a presentation before the august gathering about the "Tsunami Modelling and Early Warning Systems" during the one Day Workshop conducted by the Department of Science & Technology at UT Capital on 06.03.2012. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Amar Nath, IAS Hon'ble Administrator, Lakshadweep. Dr.M.S.Syed Ismail Koya, Director, Science & Technology made a welcome speech and Shri S.Thirunaavukarasu, Conservator of Forests proposed vote of thanks.

After the workshop Dr Murty also joined a group discussion with the officials of Department of Science & Technology and clarified the doubts about the climate change, sea erosion, tsunami etc.He is visited northern side sea erosion site, eastern side embarkation jetty, desalination plant at Kavaratti island and left for Agatti by HSC Viringli.
